I smiled. And was quite flattered.

He knows the awesome awesome self-styled men at Street Etiquette. I wonder if I can meet them and shake their hands and talk menswear and patterns and bowties for an hour somewhere hip in Harlem. It would be quite a thrill.

Everytime I look at my closet and feel the urge to complain about my limited wardrobe, I think about all the re-mixing I ought to do. And Steven Alan definitely gives me ideas.

This God is big enough to fix my mistakes.

Also, I did not think it possible for there to be a “Christian” cd that could be enjoyable in its entirety. And then DCB decided to let out one last reverential hurrah before going into retirement. Maybe everyone needs to write music like it’s going to be their last song.

I had never been to a Chinese wedding before, so when the plate of bacon-looking cuts and bits of fat (which, now that I’m older and have gained more food-experience, makes me drool just thinking about it) reached my eye-level I was discouraged. What kind of people serve jellied proteins at weddings? At that precise moment, I wanted nothing more than to go home and sit in front of a large bowl of shin ramen and go to sleep.

Thank goodness the couple, N+G, had the prudence and wisdom to sit my family with an older Chinese couple in their late 50′s, who very gently reassured me that more was to come. And it most definitely did. Ten more courses of glorious, gut-pleasing, palate-thrilling Chinese food.

And I had the great grand luck to sit next to the wife the entire night – which allowed me three key benefits: a thorough explanation as to the contents of each dish, instructions for  the method by which I ought to consume said amazingness, and out of the goodness of her heart – the best pieces of lobster which she so painstakingly retrieved for my plate.

I can’t exactly remember how the cake tasted, or how the ceremony was, or even if there was any dancing, but I do remember the taste of the soft, buttery lobster meat, the sheer bubble of happiness that settled in my belly as I slurped down noodles, and pain my eyes felt every time they opened a little further than their lids would allow, out of shock from the plates that approached my little gastronomic throne every fifteen or so minutes.

It was – to this day – the best meal I ever ate.

So. Much. Awesome.

I thought living in the Chicagoland area would have prepared me for life below freezing. And perhaps it did, at least somewhat. But most definitely not enough.

But for serious guys, when I was walking around (gloved and hatted and jacketed) and the wind chill put me somewhere in the 20′s – I was not a happy pedestrian.

Silly me, deciding to go on a stroll through Chelsea while waiting to meet up with a friend. Fifteen minutes of shiver-fraught pacing left me a much humbler Texan.

Maybe I just need to build up my endurance.

Or maybe I’m just weak.

Can we just take a second and think about how awesome 강지영’s style is? (Fashion director of GQ Korea) And to think that so many Korean girls walk around with miniskirts that could double as handkerchiefs. This woman has great taste. Koreans seem to pay no attention to her awesome takes on menswear – just think…we could have an entire country of women with such great style. But no. Pity really…

When I grow up I want to dress like her.
